| What is the AAU?
The Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) is one of the largest, nonprofit, volunteer sports organizations in the United States. A multisport organization, the AAU is dedicated exclusively to the promotion and development of amateur sports and physical fitness programs. The AAU consists of 32 sports. What is Western Pennsylvania AAU? Western PA AAU is one of 62 district associations that ties into the National AAU with its own sanctioned tournaments and competitions. Teams and individuals who qualify in sanctioned Western PA AAU events can then go on to the National AAU Championships held around the United States. The Western PA association was organized on November 16, 1917. The association includes counties in Pennsylvania west of Bedford, Centre, Clinton, Huntington and Potter Counties and the Counties of Brooke, Hancock, Marshall and Ohio in West Virginia. How do I get on an AAU team? Since Western PA AAU is new to so many people we are looking for you to form your own team and get volunteers (parents, school coaches, older family members or interested friends who are over 21) to organize and coach your team. We will be listing on this web page sites and times of try outs to help organize teams and coaches. Can I register with the AAU online? Yes. Go to the Membership section of the Amateur Athletic Union's site. You can choose to either submit your information with an online form and pay by credit card, or you can print out a completed form and submit your application by mail (memberships are for one year and run from September 1 through August 31). We strongly encourage that you select the Added Benefit Membership package. Details are available on the signup page. Can I register a team with the AAU online? Club memberships are also available on the Membership page. I still need more information on Western PA AAU? Thanks for asking. As we grow (with your help) we will be able to address the majority of your questions on this frequently asked questions page. Your questions and feedback are important to us and others who visit this site. We will use your feedback to update this section accordingly. |
